About Sharp Water Culligan
History
Established in 1968, Servisoft of Delmarva began providing portable exchange tank service to customers in Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset, and Sussex Counties. Many of these original customers are still with us today which is one reason why we are committed to continue offering this service.
Duke Shannahan purchased the company in 1990 because he realized the need for high quality, safe drinking water. After all, the Shannahan family has been drilling wells on Delmarva since 1883 so Duke knew quite a bit about wells, pumps, and water quality problems. At that point, the company primarily provided exchange tank service as well as a unique way of delivering clean resin in bulk to large commercial and industrial customers. Known as Metered Water Service, Duke recognized the niche this product had in the market. At the same time, he realized the tremendous potential to offer high-quality drinking water products residentially, so he became an authorized dealer for EcoWater Systems.
Duke’s first new hire back in 1990 was his son, Duke Jr. or DJ as we know him. DJ’s knowledge of chemical water treatment and filtration, business management, and his work ethic soon helped the company thrive. Under this new leadership, the company consistently posted double-digit growth and expanded its product offerings to include rental equipment, bottled water, salt delivery, and certified water plant operation. In 1998, a second location in Dover, Delaware was opened so that Sharp Water could serve all the residents of Delmarva.
Shortly after Duke’s retirement, DJ and his wife Cindy purchased the company. Their first order of business was to build a new facility and relocate the business since it had outgrown the previous location. Within a year, a brand new 6,000 square foot resin regeneration plant was completed along with a total transformation of an older office building.
Under DJ’s guidance, Sharp Water has become a national leader, several times earning top dealer awards from EcoWater Systems for residential and commercial sales. We have also become Delmarva’s # 1 water treatment dealer and are the only dealer who can truly cover the entire peninsula. This positions us as one of the largest water treatment dealers on the eastern seaboard. With a strong history, exceptional staff, and a great new name, Sharp Water Culligan will be here when you need us.
